A picture looking down the X-ray experimental room, during the preparation of our experiment. Johan, coordinator of the team of facility scientists assigned to our experiment, is on the ladder in front of the vacuum sample chamber (the large steel box). He is checking the load-lock system, used to insert in the chamber microinjectors that deliver protein crystals in a liquid microjet. Another group of scientists and engineers from EuXFEL is changing an electronics board for the high-speed X-ray camera, which can record more than 5 million images per second.
